Street art by Monsieur Qui
November 15th, 2012Check out the French illustrator/street Artist Monsieur Qui (Mr Qui). His fashion illustrations are beautiful, as you can see in a lot of his drawings, Mr Qui likes to incorporate his hand made typography. He like to say that ” Streets are the best ephemeral galleries to show his fashion’s illustration work; to diffuse glamour in city. And he have more place in the streets to work than in his apartment.” If you are in Paris, you will spot his drawings pasted all over walls.

A report on Fashion in Greece “Remember fashion”.
September 4th, 2012
One year ago, Supexmagazine took a trip to Athens, to see what Greece had to offer, of local fashion design. I quickly realized that it was hard to find a brand or a shop, which you wouldn’t be able to find, in any of Europe’s big cities.
In the streets of Syntagama, you could easily find the dominating fashion brands, and many smaller brands like “kulte” , and in a lot of the shops they were even on sale! - Since the financial crisis hit Greece, many of the shops have different brands on sale, and therefore Athens will be an ideal city, if you want to shop the big brands to reasonable prices, but we didn’t find any local, more original shops.
But then in the hectic street life of Athens, on 79 Adrianou street plaka, between all the merchandise shops, I found a different and strange clothing store.
The store, “Remember fashion”, had two sculptural and eccentric dresses standing there in the showcase. The dresses, that reminded me more of art than useable clothing, gave the impression that this store was original. An impression that wasn’t changed.
When I step into the store the clerk Michalis, who in his spare time is both a DJ and a fashion artist, rushes to assist me. Michalis immediately spots that I’m not a local, and starts to show me around the shop, while he seemingly interested asks about me. I ‘m not really listening since the clothes in the store has taking my interest.
The clothes that were hanging in the store, wasn’t just different from the clothes I have seen in Athens, but different from any clothes in any store I have ever seen. The clothes had a raw, but sculptural look, and was created in all kinds of colours, and of materials I would never have imagined being used for clothes.
I was so eager to know who created these original designs, that I fervently wanted to meet the designer. After some hesitation, it was shown to be a black haired, middleaged man, who with a pair of iconic sand coloured sunglasses, llimped smilingly over to me and shook my hand. The man showed to be DIMITRIS TSOUANATOS.
When Dimitris heard that i was from supexmag, he pulls out 2 heavy photo albums, and shows me, for what seemed to be an hour, the many celebrities who has been in the store, from Sex Pistols to the Danish Medina. Dimitris who was obviously proud of his achievements, then started to talk about his life and creations.
Already as a kid, Dimitris started to design clothing. As a 10 year old his very characteristic style started to take shape. This very early passion for fahion, resulted in him opening rememberfahion in 1978.
Since the opening Remember has every year presentet an original fashion collection of clothes made by odd material combinations such as, straw with Plexiglas, wired brushes, cork, latex pipes, fresh flowers sealed in plastic, painted eel-grass, leather with soundproof styrofoam, aluminum etc.
As Dimitris had been talking for a while, he reminded me that as an artist you have to protect your ideas very carefully. He then proceeds to claim, that he had designed the famous pointy bras in 1982 4 years before, Jean Paul gaultier had designed them for Madonna. A claim that I can neither confirm, or invalidate.
Nevertheless, if you are in Athens you should definitely take a look into Remember!
