Jean Paul Gaultier is one of the funniest designers, the fashion world has known. He is a rogue, he has kept a needle and thread aloud to the silly and with its design hailed all the proud and outsiders
But it is no longer so fun to be Jean Paul Gaultier.
“I have made collections of men’s and women’s clothing for more than 38 years, but now it’s time to stop.”
“I along with my co-workers looked at various options for the company’s future. Every time we come to the same conclusion: it must stop, “writes Jean Paul Gaultier in an open letter to the industry magazine Women’s Wear Daily.
Increasing commercial demands and the hectic pace is the reasons why he stops making RTW clothes.
“I have for some time been perfect satisfaction by working with haute couture. It allows me to express my creativity and my desire to research and experiments, “he writes.
“In parallel, the pret-a-porter world evolved tremendously. The pace is increased, and the commercial requirements means that there is no freedom back – or time to find fresh ideas and be innovative. ”
Jean Paul Gaultier will however not be short of money in the future. He holds on to its lucrative licensing agreements. Especially his women’s and mens fragrance; Classique and La Mâle, has for 20 years been a huge success
